Doll Notes
I originally had a different sculpt in mind for this character, but when me and my boyfriend stumbled across some super cheap second hand listings on Mercari I thought this head could make a lovely Steven. My boyfriend needed the body for one of his characters, so it worked out super well as I only needed the head.
Steven is a short guy, so I wanted to make sure to find a smaller SD body to shell him. The difficulty is, his character is quite stocky, and that's something hard to find in dolls. In the end I decided an old Volks body would probably suit him best, as they are on the shorter side and they don't tend to have those cinched waists that are so common in doll sclupts now.
I bought this body for him second hand on Mandarake and honestly I think it might be my favourite doll body! Volks are probably my favourite company, I just love their sculpting. The resin feels so nice and he holds himself so well. A bonus is this body came with a cute fist hand as an extra! I got a friend to mod the hand a little for me, to create a gap between his thumb and palm, so now he can hold things!
The most annoying thing about shelling Steven has been his hair, I just can't get it right! You would think a mid length, wavy black wig with no fringe wouldn't be too difficult to find, but I have really struggled to find one. I bought one that was much longer than needed and cut it, but this isn't a perfect solution as the wig is so thick, his hair actually looks quite a mess at the moment. Hopefully I can find him a better one eventually.

Steven is a freelance photographer who travels around in his converted van, which is both a darkroom and living space.
